About the area
The Needles are a cluster of weathered granite spires in Custer State Park. Needles Highway winds about 14 miles through them, squeezing through narrow one-lane rock tunnels like the Needles Eye Tunnel, with pullouts and trailheads all along the way.
The hills around where this photo was taken, traced line by line. Each thin line marks 25 m of elevation.
