Devils Tower, Wyoming
In November 2025 we hiked the trail around the base of Devils Tower in Wyoming with Nikita and Buddy. It was Roxie’s first time seeing prairie dogs, so we stopped and hung out with them for a while before looking up at these towering columns of rock.
Repeating rock columns in similar grays make this Devils Tower jigsaw puzzle a satisfying challenge.

About the area
Devils Tower rises about 867 feet above its base in northeast Wyoming and is sacred to many Plains tribes. In 1906 it became the first national monument in the United States. The 1.3-mile Tower Trail circles its base, past boulder fields and pine forest, and a prairie dog town sits nearby.
The hills around where this photo was taken, traced line by line. Each thin line marks 20 m of elevation.
