Crete, Greece
In June 2025, friends were doing a big trip through Europe, and Roxie and I joined them for the Greece leg: Crete, then Athens. We truly loved Crete. After a day exploring the island on ATVs, we ended up in this little harbor town on the eastern end of the island, where fishing boats rest below a small white lighthouse and the mountains rise right behind town.
Boats, beach umbrellas and rooftops give this Greece jigsaw puzzle lots of texture, while the water and mountains make a calmer finish.

About the area
Crete is the largest of the Greek islands, with mountain ranges running almost its whole length. The eastern end is quieter than the west, with small fishing harbors, olive groves and villages tucked between the mountains and the sea.
The coastline around where this photo was taken, with the land traced line by line. The bold line is the shore, and each thin line marks 5 m of elevation.
